semester- or year-long STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS

We invite you to engage in the challenges and rewards of long-term study abroad!  There are numerous programs in which you can participate--some in English, some in the host language, some combined--and full financial aid may apply, if you qualify.  We can also help you to pre-approve transfer credit through other accredited U.S. colleges and universities.

Your first step is to attend one of our weekly informational sessions, dates and times for which are posted on this site and in our office, Engleman B 129, (203) 392-6756.  Once we have received the approval form from your academic adviser (which you will receive at the information session), you can contact our office to schedule an appointment to work with one of our coordinators--Dr. Erin Heidkamp, Dr. Sobeira LaTorre or Michael Schindel. At that point, we will begin work on your exciting odyssey abroad! (We recommend that you begin to work with us six months to a year before you plan to travel.)

We are devoted to helping you become a global citizen, and we warmly welcome your participation in long-term study abroad!

Note on deadlines:

For Fall study abroad, students must be approved by and actively working with a coordinator and admitted to a study abroad program by April 15th.

For Spring study abroad, students must be approved by and actively working with a coordinator and admitted to a study abroad program by November 15th.

Study Abroad Program Options:

We encourage students to seek out programs that well-suited for them--academically, financially, and in every other way.  Some of our students choose to participate in programs not partnered with Southern; in cases such as this, the program must first be evaluated by a coordinator to ensure that credits will transfer.  Other students choose to participate in one of our partner reciprocal exchange programs (see below):
