                        Department of World Languages

                                                    Presents:

The 2012 International Field Study in

                                  Spain

                       JuNe 30 - July 29, 2012

Salamanca

The great university city of Salamanca is Spain's finest showcase of Renaissance and Plateresque architecture.  Founded as an Iberian settlement in pre-Roman times, the city fell to Hannibal in 217BC. Preeminent among its artists and master craftsmen of later years were the Churriguerra brothers.  Their work may be seen in many of Salamanca's golden stone buildings, notably in the Plaza Mayor.  Other major sights are the two cathedrals and the 13th-century university, one of Europe's oldest and most distinguished.

Segovia

Segovia's aqueduct is of the greatest surviving monuments in Roman engineering. This aqueduct stretches from the walls of the old town to the edges of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

Galicia

An area with a splendid prehistoric, Roman, and Visigoth past, the autonomous community of Galicia in Northwest Spain offers unique history and landmarks around every corner.  Galicia bosts dense forests, mountains, cliffs, rivers, and expansive coastlines.  In Galicia, one can experience the history of the past few thousand years from prehistoric burial sites and petroglyphs to modern cultural revolution, literature, and art.  A diverse landscape, Galicia offers great beauty, great food, and great learning experiences for all.

A non-refundable deposit of $500 made out to 'SCSU-Program in Spain' is due upon submitting an application. This guarantees your participation in the program and reserves your room.  A second payment of $2180 is due on March 1, 2012.  The remainder of the balance ($2180) is due no later than May 1, 2012.

Southern's tuition and the summer registation fee are not included in the program fees.  Each student must register for 3 credits at SCSU.  The other 3 credits from the Colegio de España will be transferred upon completion of the  program. The program fee does not include personal expenses, touring, books, laundry, snacks, medical and living expenses, or any additional expenses that alter itinerary or arrangements. Students are encouraged to  consult with the Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility.

Program fees are based upon historical program costs and current rates of exchange. Extreme fluctuation in exchange rates or boarding costs in Italy may result in additional fees being charged. The University reserves the right to change the itinerary of proposed trips if needed to control the cost of the overall trip.  In the event that additional fees exceed the current costs by more than 20%, the student may choose to drop the course and receive a refund of all funds recoverable by the university. Fees will be frozen on May 1, 2012 and after May 1 there will be no refunds. The program does not accept responsibility for personal property, which must be insured separately if desired, and reserves the right to make changes required by circumstances. In the event of an off-campus course cancellation, students will be refunded all the fees recovered from the program providers (airlines, hotels, etc.). The SCSU IE office will aggressively negotiate for refunds.  The university reserves the right to cancel this program in the event that student safety abroad is in question.

Cancellation insurance is strongly advised. In the event of a cancellation, tuition refunds will be given in accordance with the policy of the university. Copies of the cancellation policy, required releases, and medical statement may be obtained from the SPAR office.

This program accepts no responsibility for personal property, which must be insured separately if so desired; in particular, students are urged not to bring valuables with them. The program reserves the right to make changes required by circumstances.
