Students may choose to stay in a residence hall or live with a family (double occupancy). Single rooms are available upon request for an additional $150 payable in Spain. Three meals per day will be provided by your host family or the dining hall. Dietary preferences and restrictions should be explained in detail to trip Director at the time of registration.
Program Fees
Program Fees: $4300
Fees include room and board (three meals), airfare, guided instructional excursions (with two meals: breakfast and dinner), Language Practicum, and entrance to all cultural activities sponsored by the Program. This year we will offer the following excursions: a 1-day trip to Segovia, a 1-day trip to La Albera, a 2-day trip to Galicia and a 3-day trip to Madrid.
A non-refundable deposit of $500 made out to 'SCSU-Program in Spain' is due upon submitting an application. This guarantees your participation in the program and reserves your room. A second payment of $1900 is due on March 19, 2010. The remainder of the balance ($1900) is due no later than April 15, 2010.
Tuition is not included in the program fees. Each student must register for 3 credits at SCSU. The other 3 credits from the Colegio de España will be transferred upon completion of the program. The program fee does not include SCSU Summer registration fee, personal expenses, touring, books, laundry, snacks, medical and living expenses, or any additional expenses that alter itinerary or arrangements. Students are encouraged to consult with the Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility.
Fees are based upon historical program costs and current rates of exchange. Extreme fluctuation in exchange rates or boarding costs in Spain may result in additional fees being charged. The University reserves the right to change the itinerary of proposed trips if needed to control the cost of the over all trip. In the event that additional fees exceed the costs above by more than 20%, the student may choose to drop the course and will receive a refund of all funds recoverable by the university. Fees will be frozen on April 30, 2010 and after May 5, 2010 there will be no refunds. The program accepts no responsibility for personal property, which must be insured separately if so desired, and reserves the right to make changes required by circumstances. The University reserves the right to cancel this program in the event that student safety abroad is in question. Cancellation insurance is strongly advised. In the event of a cancellation, refunds will be given in accordance with the policy of the University. Copies of the cancellation policy, required releases and medical statement may be obtained by contacting Dr. Arboleda.
Salamanca
The great university city of Salamanca is Spain's finest showcase of Renaissance and Plateresque architecture. Founded as an Iberian settlement in pre-Roman times, the city fell to Hannibal in 217BC. Preeminent among its artists and master craftsmen of later years were the Churriguerra brothers. Their work may be seen in many of Salamanca's golden stone buildings, notably in the Plaza Mayor. Other major sights are the two cathedrals and the 13th-century university, one of Europe's oldest and most distinguished.
Segovia
Segovia's aqueduct is of the greatest surviving monuments in Roman engineering. This aqueduct stretches from the walls of the old town to the edges of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
