Admission requirements for International Students

WHAT IS SOUTHERN'S POLICY REGARDING THE ADMISSION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS?

International students go through a co-admission process to meet both academic and international student standards. They must demonstrate their proficiency in English. In addition, proof of the student's first-year expenses must be documented and presented to the International Student Services Office. The Admissions and International Student Services offices work closely with each other to select strong candidates.

In order to apply to Southern Connecticut State University as an International student, applicants are required to apply on or before the deadlines below:

 Fall semester deadline:

. Incoming F-1 students submit admission application by April 1st.

. F-1 transfer students submit admission application by June 1st. 

 

Spring semester deadline:

. Incoming F-1 students submit application by October 1st.

. F-1 transfer students submit admission application by November 1st.

 

Please submit the following required information to the International Office:

• Completed International Undergraduate or Graduate applicant profile form ( can be also found online at Southernct.edu under the Undergraduate or Graduate admissions links for "International Students").

• An original current financial bank statement showing at least $18,332 available if you are applying as an undergraduate students and $19,078 if you are applying as a graduate student. The financial statement can be in the student's name or sponsor's name.

 If you are currently studying in United States we need the 

following documents:

. Transfer Form (please contact us for details)

. Copies of all I-20s issued (Front and back)

.  Copy of OPT cards if any

.  Copy of Passport

.  Copy of Visa
 
.  Copy of I-94 card (Front and back)

After the above is submitted, the International office will then send a Clearance Form to the Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Studies.

Please submit the following to the office of Undergraduate or Graduate admissions:

• Admission application and $50 check/money order ( you can apply online at Southernct.edu

• Evaluated academic transcript  ( for information about acceptable evaluation agencies please contact the admission office at (203)392-5656 for Undergraduate Admissions and  (203) 392-5240 for Graduate Studies.

• TOEFL scores or ESL certificate.

• Foreign national student information ( information is submitted online, please contact the admission office for instructions).

 After you are accepted, the admission office will:  

  

       1. notify the International office of your acceptance

       2. send you an acceptance letter

AFTER ACCEPTANCE, WHAT IS THE PROSPECTIVE STUDENT'S NEXT STEP?

The International Office will then create an I-20 and send it to you. If you do not wish to have your I-20 and/or acceptance letter sent to your foreign address, please notify the International office and the admission office and you must provide the offices with  the address you would like your I-20 and/or acceptance letter to be sent to. If you would like your I-20 to be sent by Expess mail, please contact FEDEX/DHL to make your I-20 shipping payment in advance. Please note that your acceptance letter is issued by the admission office and not the International Office. If you prefer your acceptance letter mailed by express mail, please contact the Undergraduate or Graduate admissions.

 

 

  • Outside of the United States , a student secures a visa for entry into the United States by  presenting to the U.S. Consul in the native country an I-20 Certificate for Eligibility for F-1 student status, the university acceptance letter,  financial statements and a valid passport.

  • F-1 transfer students within the United States arrange for admission to another U.S. college or program by checking with both international student advisers and following the transfer procedure at each college.
