Joe Christinat '96

Joe graduated with a degree in journalism from SCSU in 1996 and
spent three years as a researcher, reporter and writer for US
Senator Joe Lieberman and the US Dept. of Energy. After a stint
trying (and failing) to get rich quick during the tech boom, Joe
took a job as a financial reporter covering private equity and
leveraged buyouts for Thomson Financial. This preceded a job offer
from Citigroup, to handle media relations for the capital markets
unit within its investment banking group. While at Citigroup, Joe's
areas of coverage included parts or all of the following: debt and
equity capital markets, Latin America, public finance, municipal
finance, foreign exchange, microfinance, commodities, Citigroup's
economists, and the bank's environmental and social responsibility
platform. In 2006, Joe moved back to Thomson to accept a wider
role, handling media relations for the firm's Americas-based
financial businesses, and providing additional coverage for the
firm inAsia. Joe has two kids (Libby 5, Zach 3) and has been
married to his patient and forgiving wife Julie, for 10 years. They
also have a dog, and are thinking about maybe getting some
goldfish. In his spare time, Joe fantasizes about pushing Robert
Novak into traffic, dunking a basketball, and pretending to be
Mickey Mantle at bat against Walter Mitty pretending to be Bob
Feller.

Kathy Kelly-Brown was appointed Senior Vice President, NBC
Universal Corporate Communications and Media Relations in May 2005.
She is responsible for developing and executing NBC Universal's
media relations strategy and serves as a principle corporate media
representative and spokesperson across NBC Universal's networks and
business divisions as well as overseeing special executive projects.

Since July 2004, Kelly-Brown served as Vice President, NBC
Entertainment Publicity where she oversaw the creation and
execution of publicity campaigns for all of NBC's primetime series,
long form, special and daytime programming.

Prior to that, she was Vice President, NBC Primetime Series and
Long Form Publicity since July 2002 and before that served as Vice
President, NBC Studios and Program Information where she supervised
the publicity strategy for all NBC Studios' programming.

Kelly-Brown rejoined NBC as Director, Entertainment Publicity in
April 1999 where she was responsible for the publicity campaigns
for many of the network's highest profile series and was awarded
the Maxwell Weinberg Publicists Showmanship Award for her campaign
for "The West Wing" and a Television Publicity Executive Committee
(TPEC) Award for her campaign for "Will & Grace."

From September 1995 to April 1999, Kelly-Brown was a Senior
Publicist for Warner Bros. Television.

She began her publicity career with NBC in 1992.

Kelly-Brown lives in Westport, Conn., with her husband and their
two daughters.

Ian Powers got the most of his journalism experience at SCSU, from
spending a year as sports editor of the Southern News to performing
play-by-play of basketball and football games on WOWL radio (now
WSIN) to his work with the school's chapter of the Society of
Professional Journalists. At every stage of his carerr, Ian always
was and is reminded of what he learned at SCSU, and Jerry Dunklee's
ethical voice or Frank Harris' love of the craft accompanies him in
his journalistic journey.  Ian turned a love of sports and an
internship with the Connecticut Post his senior year into a rising
career in sports journalism in the New York metropolitan area.
After writing about high school,  college and professional sports
for 2 1/2 years in Bridgeport, he embraced an opportunity to design
and edit pages in the sports department. In the fall of 2001, Ian
moved to The Journal News of Westchester, Putnam and Rockland
Counties in New York, where in time he became the lead designer for
sports, contributing heavily to award-winning coverage of the 2006
U.S. Open at Winged Foot among other accomplishments. After
spending five crazy months as a designer for the New York Post, Ian
moved on to a coveted position with the New York Daily News, where
he assists and oversees the night operation of the sports
department for the print edition. Ian was born and raised in
Stamford and lives in Norwalk.
