The New Haven High School Math Competition
Every spring, Southern sponsors a competition for high school math students from the New Haven area. High schools may enter up to two teams of four students each. The contest consists of five rounds. The first three rounds are individual rounds that test your knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. There are also two team rounds one of which consists of a CAPT-style open-ended problem and the other is an "anything goes" round with some really challenging questions for your team.
This year, the annual contest will be held on April 12, 2012.
Dr. Hartog of Southern's Mathematics Department has prepared some sample questions to help students prepare. To check your work, here are the answers.
