Graduate Program Mission and Outcomes

 

Graduate Program Mission

In each of the three programs, the mission is to produce highly trained and knowledgeable certified teachers of high school mathematics who are capable of being very successful teachers and have the potential to become leaders in their profession.

 

 

General Student Outcomes

It is expected that each graduate student in mathematics will be able to:

  • Achieve mastery of a rich and diverse set of mathematical ideas.
  • Use acquired mathematical skills to undertake independent learning and to be a contributing member of a problem solving team.
  • Demonstrate the ability to write mathematical proofs.
  • Communicate effectively and explain mathematics both verbally and in writing.
  • Utilize appropriate technology to develop models for solving problems and analyzing new situations.
  • Think analytically and critically and be able to formulate problems, solve them, and interpret their solutions.



certification outcomes

Students completing the certification courses should:

  • Be adequately prepared for PRAXIS II.
  • Demonstrate a breadth and depth in mathematics that would allow them to formulate and respond to questions that promote meaning and understanding of mathematics.
  • Develop, implement, and continually assess instructional methods that foster the learning of mathematics.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of current high school curricular and pedagogical standards.
