Southern's Multicultural Center serves as a resource for the university and the community in promoting an awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity. It offers educational programs and services to assist in the recruitment and retention of students. The Center also sponsors outreach programs with area schools, conducts art exhibitions, film programs, lectures, and conferences and houses a book and video library.
The Multicultural Center was established in 1991 to promote and implement multicultural programming. It is a positive force in the lives of African American, Asian American, Latino/Hispanic American and Native American Students.

A CELEBRAtion in honor of rev. dr. martin luther king jr.
Join us in celebrating the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Day of Celebration program will feature keynote speaker, Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson who will be speaking on "the Role of Media Images in the Quest for Equality". In addition to the keynote speaker, professional monologist Ms. Tiffany Bailey will be portraying Coretta Scott King by bringing us back in time to experience the obstacles and triumphs of her husband, family and the fight for civil rights. The ever-popular and dynamic SCSU Steppin'Up Drill Team will also be performing.

BLACK IN AMERICA
Who defines who is Black in America? What does being Black even mean? Join us as we view short segments of the Who is Black in America documentary by CNN's Soledad O'Brien and conduct a student led panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Julian Madison based on the topic.

The Multicultural Center and the West Indian Society would like to invite you to join us in viewing B.A.D Friday: Rastafri after Coral Gardens. This film focuses on a community of Rastafarians in western Jamaica who annually commemorate the 1963 Coral Gardens "incident".
