SCSU Welcomed NEASC Site Team to Campus

The NEASC site team was on campus Oct. 17-19, 2011, and held a series of open meetings with various constituencies within the university community. The following meetings took place:

Open Meeting with Students - Monday October 17, 2011, 11:45am-1:00pm, EN B 121 A/B
Open Meeting with Faculty - Monday October 17, 2011, 1:15pm-2:30pm, EN A120
Open Meeting with Staff - Tuesday October 18, 2011, 2:00pm-3:30pm, ASC Theater
Exit Report - Wednesday, October 19, 2011, 10:00-11:30 a.m., Adanti Student Center Theater

All were welcome at these meetings.

FALL 2011 Update

The Self-Study has been completed and has been sent to NEASC. The final version can be read here.

The public is invited to submit comments that address substantive matters related to the quality of the institution. The full announcement can be read here.

A university-wide town hall meeting was held on September 23, 2011. The purpose of the meeting was to update the university community on the site visit, which will take place in October. On April 8, 2011, the NEASC Self-Study Steering Committee held a town hall meeting to discuss the reaccreditation process and answer questions about the current draft of the self-study report, which is now posted on the NEASC Website. Self-Study Timeline

The first draft of the NEASC self-study is due to NEASC in February 2011. Members of the Steering Committee are now in the process of collecting data, conducting interviews and surveys, and writing their respective Standards' drafts.

NEASC Reaccreditation

In the fall of 2011, the university underwent its 10-year comprehensive evaluation by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). In preparation for the evaluation, the university prepared a comprehensive self-study in which we analyze our effectiveness as a teaching and learning institution and assess the extent to which we meet each of eleven standards for accreditation.

On November 23, 2009, President Cheryl Norton charged the steering committee with creating a comprehensive and transparent self-study. The steering committee, after seeking wide participation by faculty, staff, and students, heard from a number of individuals who expressed interest in taking part in the self-study. Those who volunteered to take part spent 18 months working with members of the steering committee on crafting narratives that address the 11 standards.

SCSU was last reaccredited in 2001, and that status was reaffirmed by the commission on the basis of interim reports submitted in 2006 and 2008.
