"The World Goes Round"
Wed., Dec 07
On Sat., Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., an ultra-talented cast of alumni of Southern's Crescent Players will star
in the musical review The World Goes Round: The Music of Kander & Ebb. With music from Chicago, Cabaret, Woman of the Year, and New York, New York! Proceeds
from the performance will benefit the Crescent Players Endowed Scholarship. The show, directed and
choreographed by Larry Nye, is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. It will be performed on the Lyman Center Mainstage.
Kander and Ebb were a highly successful songwriting team consisting of composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb. Known primarily for their stage musicals, Kander and Ebb also scored several movies, including their most famous song, the theme song from Martin Scorsese's New York, New York. Recorded by many artists, "New York, New York" became a signature song for Frank Sinatra. The team also became associated with actresses Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera, for whom they wrote material for the stage, concerts, and television.
A complimentary reception in the lobby and dedication of the Crescent Players' newly restored photo gallery will follow the performance.
Tickets are $25 for general admission; $20 for active alumni (current membership card) and Southern faculty/staff; $5 for students; and $35 for a special Alumni Association membership ticket, which includes a one-year membership in the association.
