university to begin NEASC self-study
Tue., Nov 24
During the next 18 months, Southern will carry out a comprehensive
institutional self-study as part of our 10-year reaccreditation by the
New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The purpose of
this self-study is to
- Assess how well we are pursuing our mission and goals
- Analyze our effectiveness as a teaching and learning institution
- Assess the extent to which we meet each of eleven standards for accreditation.
The self-study will be overseen by a Steering Committee appointed by the President. Members of the campus community (students, faculty, and staff) are invited to participate in the self-study process by serving on one of the following committees:
- Standard 1: Mission and Purposes
- Standard 2: Planning and Evaluation
- Standard 3: Organization and Governance
- Standard 4: The Academic Program: Undergraduate Degree Programs
- Standard 4: The Academic Program: General Education
- Standard 4: The Academic Program: The Major or Concentration
- Standard 4: The Academic Program: Graduate Degree Programs
- Standard 4: The Academic Program: Integrity in the Award of Academic Credit
- Standard 4: The Academic Program: Assessment of Student Learning
- Standard 5: Faculty
- Standard 6: Students: Admissions
- Standard 6: Students: Retention and Graduation
- Standard 6: Students: Student Services
- Standard7: Library and Other Information Resources
- Standard 8: Physical and Technological Resources
- Standard 9: Financial Resources
- Standard 10: Public Disclosure

The committees will begin their work at the start of the spring 2010 semester.
