Our chapter was saddened by the loss of Walter Burns, BSN, RN (Class of 1999) from cancer. For those of you who knew Walter, he was a tireless advocate for Hospice. Prior to his death, he established an award for SCSU Nursing Students. The "Walter Burns Incentive Award" will be given to a nursing student who successfully completes their Junior year in the nursing program at SCSU and who commits to working the summer at Connecticut Hospice as a per diem Student Nurse. This annual award will be given to the student in the form of a gift certificate to the SCSU Bookstore. Walter was the Clinical Coordinator at Connecticut Hospice and was also an Oncology Nurse at the Hospital of St. Raphael. If you are interested in making a donation of any amount, please make your check payable to the "Walter Burns Incentive Award" c/o Dr. Bernadette Madara, SCSU, 501 Crescent Street, New Haven, CT 06515.

Attention Classes 2001-2004

We are looking for photos from your induction ceremony to be included in our chapter memory book. This album serves as the history of our chapter that began in 1986 as a Nursing Honor Society to when we became an official Charter of Sigma in 1990 to the present day. It is exciting to see our how far our chapter has progressed and we would like to keep it current. We will be submitting the book to the headquarters of Sigma Theta Tau International for consideration of an award. Because the pictures become a permanent part of the album, photos cannot be returned. Please send any photos, along with the names of the people in the picture and the year you were inducted to: Vanessa Denino, 286 Cook Hill Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.

What are you doing now???

We are very interested to hear about what our members are doing, where you are working and any projects or research you might be involved with. This information will be included in our next Mu Beta newsletter which will also be available as an "e-newsletter." Everyone is doing something worth talking about! Share it with us! Any information can be sent to me at the address above or email me. I look forward to hearing from everyone!

GET INVOLVED!!

Our chapter is moving foward! We all have busy schedules and commitments and the thought of adding one more to the list can be overwhelming. Our Board of Directors has recently begun to use a conference call service for our meetings. Imagine never having to leave home again for another meeting! The Board has found that more people participate due to the convenience. There is a minimum of commitment involved. We would love to have more of our membership help us out. Please contact us if you have any interest in serving as a Board member or on a committee.
