Forming New Student Organizations
Student organizations must be established for purposes that are legal and consistent with the broad educational mission of the university. Organizations wishing to be recognized by the university must form and operate in compliance with university policies and procedures. Organizations that are recognized by the university are required to abide by all applicable local, state, and federal laws, including Title IX and university policies, rules, and regulations.
For more information on forming a new student organization see the New Student Organizations section.
Hazing Policy Statement
While hazing practices are normally associated with social fraternities and sororities, the university's Hazing Policy Statement shall apply to all organizations, groups, and individuals.
As a condition of recognition by the university, all clubs and organizations, including fraternities and sororities, must agree that they and their members will not engage in any action or situation that recklessly or intentionally produces mental or physical discomfort or endangers the safety of an individual for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with their organization. In addition, they must agree that they and their members will not engage in any action or situation that causes an individual to suffer indignity, embarrassment, humiliation, or ridicule at the hands of others.
All organizations, groups, clubs, sports teams, fraternities, and sororities understand that hazing in any form is prohibited. Organizations violating the university's Hazing Policy Statement will be brought before the Student Affairs Committee. If found guilty, they will be disbanded. Individual members of organizations violating this policy will be brought before the University Judicial Officer for disciplinary action. If found guilty, they shall be subject to suspension or expulsion from the university.
