2012 Banner Contest


The Office of Student Life in conjunction with the Homecoming Committee is sponsoring the campus-wide traditional homecoming banner contest! All Residence Halls, Clubs and Organizations, and FYE Classes are eligible to submit banners.
 
Residence Hall contest- The Homecoming Committee is sponsoring the contest for the nine residence halls .The first place winner will receive $300.00, second place $200.00, and third place $100.00. The funds will be directly deposited into the winning Hall Council's accounts.
 
Club and Organization contest- The Homecoming Committee is sponsoring the Club and Organization contest. All clubs and organizations participating must be officially recognized by Southern Connecticut State University. The first place winner will receive $300.00, second place $200.00, and third place $100.00. The funds will be directly deposited into the winning Club or Organization account.
 
FYE Class Contest- The Homecoming Committee is sponsoring the FYE Class Contest. All FYE Classes (INQ, LINKS, and Honors College Classes) are eligible to participate. The first place winner will receive $200.00 for their class to hold an event, social, community service program, etc.
 
All entries are eligible for the overall grand prize of $500.00.
 
All clubs, organizations, and residence halls that enter banners will receive $25 just for entering! 
 
Banners are 8' by 4' sheets of canvas and are available through the Office of Student Life beginning Friday, September 14th, Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30p. Applications are to be submitted prior to obtaining a banner. Banners can be dropped off between the hours of 8:30am and 9pm starting Monday, October 8th and are due no later than 9 pm on Tuesday, October 9th  . The theme for Homecoming is "A Very Vegas Homecoming." The Southern Owls will be playing the Yellow Jackets of American International College (AIC) on Saturday, October 13th at 1pm. The name of your organization must be clearly spelled on the banner (i.e. not just Greek letters). The banners will be hung outside so please be sure to use waterproof materials and paints.  We will not take responsibility for damaged banners due to the weather. Banners must be landscape (8' wide and 4' high). Banners must be completely dry before dropping them off. ***NEW*** We will mount your banners to plywood. We will not accept pre-mounted banners.
 
Banners will be judged on the following criteria-
-          Originality- We will be looking for original and creative concepts.
-          Artistic Quality- The banner should be visually appealing.
-          Use of theme- Incorporate the Homecoming Theme into the design.
-          Spirit- Capture the spirit of Southern AND Homecoming.
