Exchange Email

Employees will access emails via Microsoft Outlook 2007/2010(on Windows machines) or Microsoft Entourage/Outlook 2011(on Macs). The email address is username@southernct.edu.

In order to access your exchange email from home you will need to go to the Outlook Web Access (OWA) website.  The website for Exchange email is https://webmail.southernct.edu. Sign in with your Windows username and password. OWA works best with Microsoft Internet Explorer. You may lose some functionalities with other browsers.

Exchange accounts at SCSU have a default quota of 1.2GB with a maximum message size of 25MB. Quota increases are not available.

The 1.2GB of storage quota is made up with 200MB of primary storage and 1.0GB of secondary storage. The secondary storage is also known as "vault". All new incoming messages will go into the primary storage first. When your account reaches the 130MB limit of primary storage, you will receive a warning message. To free up the primary storage space, you have the option to manually put messages in vault; delete unwanted/non-essential messages; or move messages into personal folders.

Vaulted messages cannot be archived to PST file. Only messages stored in primary storage can be archived to PST file. Once you delete a vaulted message, it cannot be recovered. If you move a vaulted message into personal folder, only the header of the message will be stored in personal folder and the message content will remain in the vault. To move the entire valuted message into personal folder, you must first restore the message back into primary storage, then move it from primary storage to personal folder. To learn more about vaulting, check out the user guides.

Although vaulting is enabled for all users in the backend, the plug-in for Mac is currently not available. Therefore, only Windows users will be able to put/restore messages in/from vault.

We strongly recommend that you purge unwanted/non-essential messages from your Inbox, Sent Items, and Deleted Items folders. You may also create personal folders in Outlook/Entourage. These personal folders are located on your computer's hard disk. You should routinely move messages from your Inbox to personal folders to free up the primary storage space.
