The OWLS Suite is a collection of web-based services brought to you by a collaboration between SCSU and Microsoft. The suite includes services such as: OWLS Mail, Southern's new student e-mail system; Office Live, a document collaboration tool; and SkyDrive, an online file storage service.
OWLS Mail
As a student of Southern Connecticut State University, you were given an OWLS email account at the time of your admission to the unviersity. An OWLS email account, powered by Microsoft Live@EDU, come with following features:
- 10GB of mail storage
- Calendar
- Built-in spam filter
- Mobile access
- No ads for current students
- POP3 supported
Your email address will be "username@owls.southernct.edu."
OWLS Mail Setup
1. Go to OWLS
2. Enter your username and password. You must enter your entire OWLS email address in the Windows Live ID box: yourusername@owls.southernct.edu. If you are logging in the very first time, your temporary password is your eight-digit student ID.
3. As you login for the first time using your temporary password, you will need to fill out the account information form. You will need to put in your temporary password again and declare a new password. If you did not set up alternative email address and security questions when you login for the first time, you can always come back later and set them up by selecting "Options" on the upper right hand corner (next to the search box). On the "Options" page, select "Change your password" from the menu on the right.
4. Once the form is completed, select "I Accept" at the bottom of the form. Selecting "I Accept" means that you agree to the Windows Live service agreement and Privacy Statement.

Following the instructions listed below to synch OWLS mails with your mobile phones:
Switching to Alumni Email
According to SCSU Account Management Policy, you may retain your OWLS email account for up to 5 years after your last semester at SCSU. After that your OWLS email account will be automatically transferred to Alumni email account. Your email address will be changed to "username@alumni.southernct.edu". You may retain your alumni email account indefinitely.
Resources
Important: We strongly recommend that you routinely purging unwanted or non-essential messages from your mailbox. Southern Connecticut State University provides students with OWLS Mail, which most academic and administrative offices use to send you messages. If you choose to forward this address to a non-OWLS account (e.g., Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo!), the Help Desk will not be able to help you with problems concerning that account. More importantly, if this forwarding fails for any reason, you may miss important official communications sent to your OWLS address for which you are still responsible.
