Phones in Residence Halls

OIT provides telephone service in the residence halls. Each room has one phone line and is equipped with local phone service and voice mail.

Telephones

Students must bring their own touch-tone phone for use in residence hall room. Any touch-tone analog phone approved by the FCC will work with the telephone system. Set the phone to tone. Be sure to turn on the ringer when plug the phone into the jack. Plug the cord into the voice portion of the wall jack.

Using the Phone

  • To reach another University extension - dial the 5-digit extension number (the last 5 digits of the telephone number).
  • To dial off campus - dial "9" plus the phone number.
  • For EMERGENCIES ONLY - dial "911".
  • Long distance service is not supported. To make long distance calls, use a calling card or ask operator assistance.

If you do not hear a dial tone:

  • Verify that your phone is connected properly to the wall jack.
  • Plug another phone set into your jack and place your call again. If the call goes through, the phone set may not be working properly.
  • Try a different mounting cord (the mounting cord connects the wall jack to the phone).

For questions or help with your telephone service or voice mailbox - dial "611" (SCSU Telecommunications Technical Support) from an ON CAMPUS phone.
