IT Committees

Information Technology Advisory Structure

The technology advisory structure at SCSU consists of a central advisory organization, University Information Technology Committee (UITC), and various working committees.

UITC assists CIO in achieving university's strategic goals.   However, IT is consistently confronted with tactical issues that require immediate investigations and research.  The decisions often also have significant impacts on business practices.    For these issues, they are best to addressed by working committees.   Working committees are IT committees.  Members of the working committees are invited based on their business functions.    The policies and procedures developed by the working committees will go through the formal campus approval process.   Some of the working committees will have ongoing issues to address and some will only be active for the duration of the project.   The interactions between UITC and working committees will be through CIO.   An example will be for CIO to create a working committee to address the issues raised by UITC and report back to UITC of the recommendations/resolutions proposed by the working committee.

University Information Technology Committee (UITC)

As the central advisory organization, the UITC serves three primary purposes:

  • Advocacy –The UITC offers a forum for identifying university-wide needs, including administrative and academic, that can be enabled by technology solutions, including information management, applications, technology infrastructure and services.   Members of the UITC serve as the sounding board for the constitutes and bring concerns and issues to the attention of the OIT.   Members of the UITC also serve as the advocates for OIT that  promote and encourage desirable behavior in the use of technology.
  • Advisory – Members of the UITC serve as strategic advisors to the Chief Information Officer and his/her staff.    UITC members participate in the development and implementation of Information Technology standards, policies, operation processes and procedures.     UITC makes recommendations to the CIO on technology investments, resource allocation, and project prioritization in accordance to University’s strategic goals.
  • Assessment – Members of the UITC work with CIO and his/her staff to develop meaningful measures to monitor and evaluate quality of the services and ensure that Information Technology missions are attained.

Members of the UITC are appointed by the President.  The initial appointment is a two-year term.   The appointment may be renewed once.

Teaching and Learning Technologies Committee(TLTC)

The Teaching and Learning Technologies Committee (TLTC) addresses the teaching and learning issues brought on by changes in information technology. The TLTC explores new methods of integrating technology into the teaching and learning process and makes recommendations to Chief Information Officer for the investments of technology for teaching and learning. The TLTC provides a forum for faculty and academic administrators to share ideas and address concerns related to the integration of technology into instruction, research, and assessment.

The committee discusses learning models including hybrid and distance delivery and other innovative approaches.  Members of the committee consider how instructors can use technology to make teaching more effective for teachers and learners, including in the classroom, labs and on the web.   TLTC creates initiatives that address needed improvements and additions to the technologies available to instructors and students in the learning environment.

Data Stewards Committee (DSC)

The Data Stewards Committee assists OIT in defining ownership and standards of information utilized by University staff and faculty for reporting needs, financial and administrative needs, and educational instruction needs.  It serves as a forum for addressing University’s needs in acquisition, storage, retrieval, presentation, and dissemination of the information throughout its lifecycle.  Members of the Committee work with OIT to recommend policies and procedures to support data integrity, security, and secure access at SCSU.
