Student Job Opportunities

Student Technology Consulting offers the opportunity to gain marketable customer service and technical skills. Many former consultants have used their experience to obtain positions with reputable firms and organizations worldwide. Each year, IT employs approximately 30 consultants at any given time. Make sure to check this site regularly for job opportunities.

Help Desk Consultants

Help Desk consultants provide technical assistance over the phone to SCSU faculty, students and staff.  Help desk consultants are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week. The available hours are Monday - Thursday 8 am - 8 pm, Friday 8 am - 4 pm, Saturday 9 am - 5 pm. Duties:

  • Respond to questions in a thorough, careful, efficient manner, using proper spelling and grammar and a kind, helpful tone.
  • Refer all unresolved problems to an appropriate specialist.
  • Develop and maintain awareness of the IT organizational and technical environment, including hardware, software, publications, and user concerns.
  • Document all incoming requests into Footprints, maintain correct, detail, and up to date information.
  • Participate in required training and meetings. Continuously develop technical, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.

Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills, along with the ability to interact courteously with the entire university community at all levels of technical and organizational sophistication.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and diagnostic ability.
  • Familiarity with a variety of software applications in common use at SCSU.
  • Motivation and confidence to work with minimal supervision.

High-Tech Classroom Consultants

High-Tech classroom consultants assist in delivering classroom technology equipment throughout the campus. They answer questions relating to classroom technologies, resolve problems, and maintain the equipments. Consultants are to provide technical assistance, demonstrate exemplary interpersonal communication skills, be professional at all times, and support and comply with all Southern policies and procedures. High-tech classroom consultants are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week. Duties

  • Specific responsibilities include answering customer questions, reporting software and hardware problems, enforcing policies, and assisting faculty with equipments.
  • In addition, all consultants are required to read their electronic mail which pertains to student consulting services a minimum of once every 24 hours and be familiar with any information received in the mail.
  • In support of these responsibilities, consultants will learn and implement all procedures at the sites, and will develop and maintain both a specified level of expertise in applications and a proactive ownership of customer support issues.

Qualifications:
  • Proactive and friendly customer service attitude.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional attitude and demeanor.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with Windows operating environment and common software applications such as Office, Outlook, and Internet Explorer. 

Consultants are assigned shifts at the beginning of the semester and retain these shifts for the entire semester.

We will keep your application in file for one year. If a position becomes available, we will review your application and let you know via email if we are interested in talking to you. If so, we will also arrange with you the time and place for your first interview.
