Software and Hardware

Software Downloads

SCSU supports Windows XP for PCs, the latest OS X for Mac, and Red Hat for Linux machines.  SCSU does not support Windows Vista.  However, most IT services should work sufficiently on PCs that run Windows Vista. As a member of SCSU community, you are entitled to download free copies of the following applications at SCSU Share:

  • Microsoft Office
  • McAfee Anti-virus

Recommended Computers

Information Technology does not support personally-owned computers.  OIT staff will not remove any viruses, spam, spy-ware, Trojans, or worms from non-SCSU computers.  To obtain technical support for your computer, contact the computer manufacturer or some other computer repair facility.

Computer Deals

As a member of SCSU community, you may receive special discounts for personal purchases from the following manufacturers via our Educational Purchase Agreements:

Recommended Printers

Each department may purchase printers via department funds or grant funds. As OIT has the responsibility of approving all computer related purchases, printers are also included in the approval process.

OIT has developed a list of supported printers to expedite the purchasing process. Printers that are on this list will be automatically approved for purchase. If a department wishes to purchase a printer that is not on this list, the department must include a justification with purchase requisition. Please be aware that for non-OIT supplied printers, costs for printer repairs (parts and external labor) beyond the warranty period must be paid for by the department. Therefore, OIT encourages departments to purchase extended warranty when appropriate. In addition, printers not on the list may be approved with the stipulation that OIT will make a best effort (i.e. not guaranteed) to provide support.
