Article
I - NAME
The name of this student organization
shall be the Accounting Society at Southern Connecticut State University.
Article
II - PURPOSE
It shall be the purpose of this organization
to further the accounting program at Southern Connecticut State University
by providing such services as accounting tutors, on campus recruiters,
and informative monthly meetings.
Article
III - MEMBERSHIP
Membership shall be open to all undergraduate
students who are currently registered at Southern Connecticut State University.
Article
IV - EXECUTIVE BOARD
The membership of the Executive Board
shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and
Chairpersons of Standing Committees. The Faculty Adviser(s) shall serve
as a non-voting ex-officio member of the Executive Board.
The Executive Board shall have general
supervision of the affairs of the organization between its regular business
meetings and shall make policy recommendations to the organization. The
Board shall be subject to the rules of the organization and shall not act
in conflict with actions taken by the organization.
Decisions made by the Executive Board
between meetings shall be subject to review by the membership at the next
regular business meeting of the organization.
The Executive Board shall have the
power to establish all standing committees of the organization as well
as appoint all chairpersons of standing committees.
Meetings of the Executive Board shall
be called by the President of the organization as needed but must be held
at least once a month.
A majority of the membership of the
Executive Board shall constitute a quorum. All decisions made by the Executive
Board shall be by a majority vote of the members present and voting.
Article V
- ENUMERATION OF POWERS & DUTIES OF
OFFICERS
The officers shall perform the duties
prescribed by this constitution and by the parliamentary authority adopted
by the organization.
Article VI
- FACULTY ADVISER
 | The faculty adviser shall be elected
yearly by the membership at a duly constituted meeting of the organization
prior to the end of each academic year. |
 | The faculty adviser shall be appointed
by the University and shall serve
at the pleasure and discretion of the University. |
 | The faculty adviser shall serve as
a non-voting ex-officio member of
the Executive Board. |
 | The faculty adviser shall meet his/her
responsibilities to the organization
as stated in written directives issued by the Student Affairs
Committee and in the Student Handbook. |
Article
VII - ELECTION OF OFFICERS
A. Eligibility
 | Candidates for elected office must be
full-time undergraduate students in good standing (have attended at least
two (2) regular business meetings prior to the elections). |
B. Election of officers
 | Officers shall be elected for a term of
one (1) year or until their successors are elected. They shall hold office
until June 1st when their successors shall assume office. |
 | Elections shall be held at the last scheduled
meeting of the spring semester but no later than May 1st of each year.
Only members who have attended at least two (2) regular business meetings
of the organization shall be allowed to vote. Voting shall be by a show
of hands. |
 | Officers shall be elected by a majority
of those members voting in the election. If no candidate receives a majority
vote on the first ballot, a runoff between the two top candidates will
be held. |
Article
VIII - VACANCIES
If a vacancy occurs for the office
of President, the Vice-President shall
automatically assume the powers and duties of the President.
If the Vice-President declines the
position or if the position of Vice-President is vacant, a special meeting
of the organization shall be called by the Executive Board to elect a new
President.
If a vacancy occurs for any other office,
the position shall be filled at the next scheduled meeting of the organization
following the vacancy utilizing the procedures outlined under Election
of officers.
Article
IX - IMPEACHMENT
Impeachment proceedings may be initiated
at a duly constituted meeting of
the organization by a voting member upon the presentation of a written bill of particulars to the membership.
Impeachment proceedings shall be initiated for misconduct or malfeasance
in the discharge of the duties of the office.
Impeachment proceedings shall be automatically
tabled until the next meeting of the organization. The officer being charged
shall be given the opportunity to speak on his/her behalf. Discussion and
arguments for and against the proceedings shall follow the presentation
by the officer.
Upon conclusion of the discussion and
arguments for and against impeaching the officer, a vote shall be taken.
No officer shall be impeached except by a vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the
voting members present and voting. Voting shall be by secret ballot.
An officer who is impeached shall immediately
relinquish his/her office but shall be allowed to maintain membership in
the organization unless his/her actions have brought discredit to the organization.
If an officer is impeached, the organization
shall fill the position following
the procedures outlined under Vacancies.
Article
X - STANDING COMMITTEES
The Executive Board shall have the
power to establish all standing committees
of the organization.
The Executive Board shall have
the power to appoint all chairpersons of
standing committees.
Article
XI - MEETINGS
Meetings of the organization shall
be held at least once a month during
the academic year.
The President shall have the power
to call all regular meetings of the
organization.
A quorum of fifty percent plus one
of the voting membership shall be
required to conduct any business of the organization except to adjourn.
The rules contained in Robert's
Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the organization in all cases
to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with
this constitution and any special rules of order this organization may
adopt.
Article
XII - AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION
Amendments may be presented in writing
by any voting member at a duly constituted
meeting of the organization.
Proposed amendments to the constitution
shall be automatically tabled until
the next scheduled meeting of the organization.
Prior written notice of the proposed
change(s) and the date of the meeting at which the proposed change(s) shall
be voted on shall be provided to all members of the organization.
To be approved, amendments must be
accepted by a vote of two-thirds (2/3)
of the voting members present and voting.
Amendments approved by the organization
shall be submitted to Student Government and the Student Affairs Committee
for approval before they are enacted.
