Prior to now, there has been no official model for fund-raising at SCSU. Within the next 7-8 months, with help from the President’s cabinet and faculty, we will address issues of “who we are”, how the community perceives us, and how to promote what we do well.
Yale has claimed in the past to be “the” University of New Haven; indeed it is SCSU that educates the future employees of the State of Connecticut. The CEO of Stop & Shop is a SCSU graduate.
We compete for press coverage in the New Haven Register; the more information Public Affairs is given, the better off we are. The face of the campus is changing, and we plan to promote the visual manifestation of the campus.
Over 50K was raised last year for the Distinguished Lecturer Series (included Colin Powell)
Money donated to individual campuses stays on those campuses. Donor
designations are always honored. Heavy
endowments will not cut back on regular funding; indeed every dollar endowed
to the foundation is matched by 50 cents from the State.
Vice President of Finance Jim Blake :
The University is in the process of updating ID Cards to a “ONECARD” system. “One Card” will interface with all campus systems, vendors, and stores.
Credit Union benefits will be available to all students, faculty, and staff holding the “Hoot Loot” Card.

Concerns regarding confidentiality of some materials was expressed. Distribution of aggregate data should not violate any confidence. C. Schofield-Bodt will meet with W. Carr regarding distribution of report to Senators.
New
Business:
I. Concern
was expressed regarding security on campus in light of recent thefts. New
Haven Police do not get involved with SCSU (State) Police unless requested. If
Police would make their visible presence regularly (patrol hallways) it
would be a deterrent to crime. MOTION
was made that “The Senate recommend that the University increase the visibility
of current uniformed security personnel patrolling campus” MOTION
was seconded. MOTION was defeated
(14-19).
Rob Jirsa will speak with Police Chief Prokop regarding this concern.
II. Motion
was made to extend congratulations to the SCSU and CCSU Men’s Basketball
Teams for their accomplishment in reaching the NCAA Division II and Division
I Tournaments respectively. Motion
was seconded and approved unanimously.
