Discussion concerning the EdD:
Numerous questions and concerns were addressed by visitors Henry Hein, John Onofrio, Christine
Vallani of Educational Leadership
SCSU’s concept model for the proposed EdD is suitable to be used in a proposal
for licensure; CCSU has moved forward
with their proposal
SCSU next step would be to seek approval of the BOT. UConn will likely be
opposed to our EdD.
EdD is a research oriented degree, whereas PhD is discovery oriented
It is possible that the CCSU and the SCSU proposal could go to the State
Legislature at the same time
Adjunct funding is not clear in the current proposal
MOTION: The Faculty Senate recommends the University pursue the implementation of an EdD in a manner consistent with the Faculty Senate “Resolution on the implementation” passed by the Senate and approved by President Adanti. The Faculty Senate believes that an EdD program at SCSU will have a positive impact on the University.
MOTION was seconded; discussion
Suggested substitute motion: The Senate advises the President that the proposal has no significant negative impact on the rest of the University
(substitute motion was withdrawn)
Marketing issues for an EdD need to be addressed
The Question was CALLED without objection
The Original MOTION passed by majority vote (25-5-0)
Respectfully submitted,
T. Wiley Carr
Secretary of the Senate
