The thirteenth meeting of
the 2000-2001 year was called to order at 12:10 PM.

Minutes of Faculty Senate
meetings - February 21, 2001 and March
7, 2001 were approved as presented.
Announcements:
- Construction updates:
- Engleman Hall will begin the first phase of the
construction this semester. The
contract will be signed in April 2001 and a fence will be erected around
Engleman Hall in May 2001. Any
questions about room re-assignments should be directed to Bob Sheeley.
- The design for the new Student Center is being
redone.
- Construction updates will be posted on SCSU’s
homepage: http://www.southernct.edu/departments/construction/index.php3
- Presidential Dialogue – Tuesday, April 24, 2001
at noon in the Student Center Faculty Dining Room.
- Senate President and Treasurer elections will
take place in the first meeting in May 2001.
- Vice-President Phil Smith will address the
following issues at the next meeting:
- Status of the School of Extended Learning
- Online courses
- ECollege.com
- Senator Schofield-Bodt – Buley Library will host
an Open House on April 9th, 12:00 – 2:00 PM.
- Senator Prince – Encouraged us to apply for the
CSU-AAUP research grant.
- Commencement will be held in the Yale Tennis
Center this year.
Standing Committee
Reports:
- Student Policy:
No report
- Technology:
- Computer inventory information has been
submitted by departments.
- The dial-up procedure was changed over the
Spring break with very little notice.
- Academic Policy:
- The late withdrawal policy will address the
Graduate Catalog as well.
- Elections:
- Self-nomination forms for the University-wide
elections were mailed out on 3/9/01.
- The self-nomination forms must be submitted to
the Elections Committee by 4/4/01.
- Finance:
- Lise Brule (Vice President Blake’s secretary)
is gathering information relating to the encumbered funds that are still
unused by full and part-time faculty.
- Personnel Policy:
- The Hardship DEC resolution was discussed with
AAUP President John Kavanagh.
Linda Cunningham will find out how the other CSUs are handling
this issue. Geroge Appleby,
P& T Committee chair, was asked to investigate how this resolution
would impact the committee membership.
- Rules:
- The committee has requested all the senators to
provide the following information:
i. Number of full-time faculty in each department
(exclude active searches)
ii. Terms of senators
- The Graduate Rules of Order is being addressed.
UCF:
- Information about the online courses is being
gathered.
- Course revision will be discussed at the next
UCF meeting on April 5, 2001 at 9:00 AM in EN Hall BOT room.
Old Business:
Senator Steve Judd proposed
a resolution to change the Faculty Senate Constitution regarding faculty
initiative and referendum. After a
lengthy debate and discussion, the resolution was put to vote. It did not pass by a 2/3rd
majority vote that is required to change the Senate Constitution.
New Business: None.
Meeting was adjourned at
