The first meeting of the 2003-2004 year was called to order at 12:15 PM.

 

The minutes of May 7, 2003 were approved.

President’s Report:

The president’s report was distributed.  President Paulson highlighted the following:

 

The State of the Faculty Senate (2003)

President Paulson distributed his State of the Faculty Senate Report.  In his report, President Paulson reviewed his experiences of the Presidential Search process to date.

 

Report from the University Advisory Committee -- Arlene Bielefield

Senator Bielefield, Chair of the University Advisory Committee, updated the Senate on the status of the ongoing Presidential Search.  She noted that in the latest Chronicle of Higher Education, there were listings for 41 university presidential openings.  She also outlined a tentative timeline for the search noting that the BOT hopes to name a new President at its January meeting.

Standing Committees

The senate recessed for 20 minutes to allow the standing committees to meet, elect chairs, and review agendas for the coming year.

 

Standing Committee Reports:

 

1.                  Academic Policy:

·        Senator James Fullmer was re-elected Chair and Senator Jon Bloch was elected Vice Chair.

 

2.                  Elections:

·        Senator Kay Corbett was elected Chair

·        The first order of business will be to hold an election for the P&T committee

 

 

3.                  Finance:

·        Senate Treasurer, Pam Brucker, will assume the Chairpersonship of the committee

 

4.                  Personnel Policy:

·        Senator Arlene Bielefield was re-elected Chair

 

5.                  Rules:

·        Senator Karl Rinehardt was elected Chair

 

6.                  Student Policy:

·        Senator Sandy Bulmer and Senator Mike Rogers were elected Co-Chairs

 

7.                  Technology:

·        Senator Len Brin was elected Chair
