The third meeting of the 2004-2005 year was called to
order at 12:10 PM.
The minutes of September 22, 2004 were approved.

- President DaPonte asked for consent to adjust the agenda.
The consent was unanimous.
Announcements
- Senator Vu announced that SCSU will be one of the venues
for the City Wide Open Studios program
- Senator Nye announced the performance of the musical
Cabaret
- Senator Jirsa announced that hearing evaluations are
available to faculty, free of charge, at the Speech and Hearing Center in the basement of Davis Hall. The phone number is: 392-5955.
President’s Report:
The president’s report was distributed. President DaPonte
highlighted the following:
- President DaPonte reported on his meeting with Interim Vice
President Beatty, Lynn Kohrn, and Sharon Brennan that focused on
Enrollment Management issues and the Registration One Stop Shopping
Committee. He was accompanied by Senator Paulson
- President DaPonte reported that the nominations for the
Vice Presidential Search Committees closed on Monday, October 4th.
There are 23 faculty nominations for the Provost search and 16 nominations
for the Vice President for Student Affairs.
UCF Update – Joe Fields
- The UCF had a demonstration from the Registrar at its last
meeting.
- The UCF discussed enfranchising programs that currently do
not have representation on the UCF.
Graduate Council – Jon Bloch
- Senator Bloch reported that the Graduate Faculty was
looking at Graduate Faculty eligibility and that Dean Holley reported that
a committee was being formed to streamline the thesis process.
Guest Speakers
- President Cheryl Norton addressed the senate and provided
an update on the academic calendar for the Spring Semester. She noted
that the calendar had been discussed and approved by the cabinet and
highlighted the portions of the calendar relative to registration,
advisement, financial aid, and accounts receivable. Following the
presentation, President Norton took questions from members of the Senate.
- Interim Vice President Beatty joined President Norton in
discussing issues related to matriculated and non-matriculated students,
and the differences in the registration dates between those groups.
- President Norton announced that she has instructed Vice
President Blake to set aside $100,000 in cash match funds for grants.
- President Norton also noted that there have been, and will
be, rumors around campus regarding administrative polices and actions. If
faculty or staff hear rumors, they may contact the President’s Office for
clarification.
- Lynn Kohrn and Kimberly Laing presented a demonstration of
the Curriculum Activities Program Planning program that is being developed
in Banner.
