The fourth meeting of the 2004-2005 year was called
to order at 12:10 PM.
The minutes of October 6th, 2004 were approved as amended.

Guest Speaker
- Chief Prokop addressed the Senate as requested by the
Public Safety Committee. The Committee wanted the support of the Senate
in proposing to install card readers in all campus buildings. Following
extensive discussion and a question and answer session, President DaPonte
asked for a sense of the senate vote on the issue. The Sense of the
Senate was in support of card readers with the majority voting yea and 2
nays.
Announcements
- There will be a panel discussion on public art in Earl
Hall this afternoon at 5:00 pm.
- There will be a presentation on October 21st by
Dr. Kevin McBride, Director of Research at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum on “The Mashantucket Pequot Ethnohistory Project. The lecture will be in DA 102
at 3:30 pm
- Senator Nye was congratulated on the success of Cabaret
- Senators were reminded that the next Cinéma du Monde
presentation of Matewan will be on October 27th at 7:35 in Engleman A120
President’s Report:
The president’s report was distributed. President DaPonte
highlighted the following:

DaPonte reported on the
breakfast meeting that the Executive Board had with President Norton and
members of her cabinet.
- There have been problems with the request for nominations
for the Vice Presidential Search Committees that will be addressed by the
Executive Committee.
- A request for an interpretation of the Sabbatical Leave
document has been received and will be referred to the appropriate
standing committee.
UCF Update – Joe Fields
- At its last meeting, the UCF discussed the draft UCF
Constitution and has also met with Senator Rinehardt.
- The UCF continued its discussion regarding enfranchising
programs that currently do not have representation on the UCF.
Graduate Council – Jon Bloch
- Senator Bloch reported that the Graduate Council will be
meeting with Dean Holley and Departmental Chairs at its next meeting..
Standing Committee Reports
- Personnel Policy Committee
- The committee is continuing to work on the Promotion and
Tenure Document and will be brining changes to the Senate
- Rules Committee
- The committee has reviewed the UCF Constitution and made
some more suggestions to the UCF
- Student Policy Committee
- The committee continues its work in the following areas:
- Formulating a statement on plagiarism and will meet with
the administration concerning this
- The closing out of courses with less than 15 students;
the committee would like to dialogue with President Norton regarding
this issue
- Seeking to provide guidance for the search committee for
the Vice President of Student Affairs
- Academic Policy Committee
- The committee is focusing on three areas currently:
- Minimum enrollment standards for course cancellation
- Registration policy for matriculated students
- The Grade Change Policy – the committee will meet with
Jeannete Oppedisano to discuss this policy
- Elections Committee
- The committee is concerned about the accuracy of the
faculty distribution lists which do not include librarians, counselors,
and coaches. The committee chair, Senator Corbett, spoke with President
Norton about this problem at the breakfast meeting.
- Finance Committee
- There is $73,000 left in the full-time faculty travel
fund and $12,000 left in the part-time faculty travel fund.
