The second meeting of the 2004-2005 year was called to order at 12:10 PM.

 

The minutes of September 8, 2004 were approved.

President’s Report:

The president’s report was distributed.  President DaPonte highlighted the following:

·        For the other two vice-presidential searches, The Vice President/Provost for Academic Affairs and the Vice President for Student and University Affairs, the Senate will solicit nominations from the academic faculty for faculty members to serve on these two committees.

 

 UCF Update – Joe Fields

 

Standing Committee Reports:

 

1.                  Elections:

·        The committee will be meeting electronically this coming week.

 

2.                  Finance:

·        No Report

 

3.                  Personnel Policy:

·        No Report

 

4.                  Rules:

·        The committee has finished its review of the UCF constitution and it will be on the agenda for the next senate meeting

 

5.                  Student Policy:

·        The committee will focus on a draft statement regarding plagiarism

·        The committee would like some more information on the search for the new Vice President for Student and University Affairs.

·        The committee will also work on a policy to notify students regarding the course cancellation policies.

 

6.                  Technology:

·        No Report

 

7.                  Academic Policy:

·        The committee has two resolutions to be debated under New  Business

 

Old Business:

·        There was no old business

 

New Business:

Ø      The APC presented its first resolution:  In Support of the Faculty Academic Strategic Plan

o       The resolution was debated at length.

o       Since the debate lasted beyond 1:45, the cut-off time for voting on a resolution, a motion to suspend senate rules was made.  It passed by a vote of 36 yes, 0 no, and 1 abstain.

o       Following debate, a motion to table the resolution was made.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Ø      Since time for debate had expired, the APC presented its second resolution concerning grade change procedures for discussion only.

o       To facilitate discussion, the senate voted unanimously to go into forum mode.

o       Following discussion, the senate voted unanimously to reconvene.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 1:59 PM
