The second meeting of the 2005-2006 year was called to order
at 12:10 PM.

The minutes of September 7, 2005 were approved as amended.
Introduction of New and Returning Senators:
- President DaPonte asked all senators to introduce
themselves and to extend a welcome to all new members.
Announcements:
- Senator Dunklee and Senator Paulson urged faculty to
attend the movie All the President’s Men on Friday.
- Senator Vu announced that he has an exhibit opening at the
Kehler Liddell Gallery October 8th.
- Senator Lawler announced that Depression Screening Day is
October 6th
- Senator Bloch reminded senators about Hurricane Katrina
relief activities
- The memorial service for President Emeritus Michael Adanti
will be held on 9/22 in Lyman Center at 3:00 PM.
Guest Speaker:
- President Cheryl Norton was the guest speaker. She
provided the senate an update on various topics including:
- The status of the Michael J. Adanti Student Center. Hopefully it will be fully ready by the end of the semester. There will be a formal
opening and dedication on April 6th, 2006.
- The Buley Library Groundbreaking will be held on October
18th
- The latest CSU budgetary and funding results were
reviewed.
- In addition, President Norton discussed many related
issues and answered questions from the senators.
President’s Report:
The President’s Report was distributed. President DaPonte
highlighted the following:
- The upcoming NEASC five year review is coming up and the
administration would like a faculty member appointed from the senate
- President DaPonte met with Dave Walsh and President Norton
on 9/14 to produce a schedule for the electronic election of the at large
SCSU representative to the Chancellor’s Search Committee.
- President DaPonte met with Provost Williams and discussed
the full-time hires resolution as well as other issues pertaining to the
faculty and to the senate.
- President DaPonte plans to meet with all of the standing
committees during the semester. Last week he met with the Personnel
Policy Committee.
UCF Update – Joe Fields
- UCF has a new office, EN C216
- The UG catalog was late because corrections were needed
that delayed the printing
- At the first meeting of the semester was devoted to
organizational issues.
- The UCF would like the senate to consider constitutional
changes to include Women’s Studies and Liberal Arts in the UCF
Graduate Council Update – No Report
Standing Committee Reports
- Elections Committee
- Senator Corbett reported on the upcoming elections for
the vacancy on the P&T committee as well the election of a part-time
senator.
- Senator Corbett asked for a straw vote on the ballot
protocol to use for the election. The committee wanted to keep the same
protocol that has been used previously as opposed to the protocol used by
the AAUP. The results of the straw poll supported the desires of the
Election Committee.
- Finance Committee
- Senator Lawler reported that there is a balance of $91,
199.93 in the full-time travel account representing a decrease from 9/7
to 10/21 of $46,000.
- The balance in the part-time account is $13,435.40.
- Personnel Policy
- Senator Johnson said, “Hello.”
- Senator Johnson discussed the date discrepancy in the
P&T document compared to the dates in the calendar. He indicated
that there will be footnotes in the document indicating that the dates in
the text of the document are the contractual date limits, but that the
dates for any particular year are the dates in the calendar.
- The committee will be continuing the process of revising
the P&T document.
- Rules Committee
- Senator O’Brien that the committee discussed the
implementation of an assessment tool for the strategic plan with FASP.
- The committee discussed whether the General Education
Taskforce should be an elected body. They will continue to study this
issue.
- Student Policy
- Senator Madonia indicated that the committee was looking
at four issues:
- Academic Honesty Protocols
- Academic Advising
- Parking and Emergency egress from campus
- Transportation
- Technology
- Senator Diamantis indicated that the committee spent the
previous on organizational issues and discussed the resolutions that were
not approved by the President.
- They also will be looking at web-design and password
security issues.
- The committee would like senate feedback on the various
proposed web designs.
- The Password security issues have caused many problems
for faculty and, especially, students. The committee will be looking at
these issues.
- Academic Policy Committee
- Senator Bloch indicated that the committee met to
prioritize issues
Old Business
- There was no old business
New Business
- Senators discussed a variety of issues under new business:
- There was concern that part-time faculty were not
included in the search process for Chancellor. Dave Walsh and President
DaPonte were told that BOT policy does not include part-time faculty in
this process.
- Senator Dunklee wanted to thank Senator DeBarbieri for her
work as Chair of the Search Committee for the Vice President of Student
and University Affairs.
- Senator Bulmer also offered her very strong praise for
Senator DeBarbieri work as committee chair.
The senate adjourned at 1:55 PM.
