The twelfth meeting of the 2005-2006 year was called to order at 12:10 PM.

The minutes of March 15th, 2006 were approved.

 

Guest Speaker:  Provost Selase Williams

 

Announcements:

Ø      Senator Gilliland announced that there are two lectures in the SCSU Philosophy Department Colloquium Series that are cosponsored by the Women’s Center and they are open to the general public.  The first is on Friday, April 7th and the second is on Monday, April 24th.  Both are at 1 pm in EN C122.  The first lecture will be delivered by Robert Bernasconi on “The Policing of Race Mixing: The North American Impact on European Ideas of Race in the Late Nineteenth Century” and the second lecture will be delivered by Donna Marcano on “The Difference That Difference Makes:  Black Feminism and Philosophy”. 

 

 

Ø      Senator Dunklee announced that there is money available for research related projects for departmental honors theses. 

Ø      Senator Bulmer announced that the Student Government also has opportunities for students to receive money if they wish to attend conferences.

Ø      Senator Enjalran announced the conference of the Physics Students’ Club for Friday (at Yale) and Saturday (at SCSU).  Kudos for the job they have done so far. 

Ø      Senator Reynaga announced that the library services would like all faculty to participate in the emailed survey.

Ø      Senator Prince announced that Henry Hine was named Interim Dean of the School of Business.

Ø      Senator Slomba announced that Nari Ward, sculptor, will speak on April 6th, at 5 pm, at Earl Hall 211.

Ø      Senators Brin and Reynaga will be the two observers for the SCSU AAUP Executive Board elections. 

  

 

President’s Report:

The President’s Report was distributed.  President DaPonte highlighted the following:

 

UCF Update – Joe Fields

 

Graduate Council Update – Jon Bloch

 

 

 

Standing Committees:

v     Personnel Policy Committee: Senator Johnson noted that the committee is working on the P & T document and most likely it will not be presented to the Senate this semester.

§         The full P & T committee will meet with the Personnel Policy committee next week.

 

v     Rules Committee:  Senator O’Brien had no report.

v     Student Policy Committee:  Senator Madonia noted that Dr. Heron visited the committee and shared information on the alcohol policy and suicidal policy.

v     Technology Committee:   Senator Diamantis had no report.

v     Academic Policy Committee:  Senator Bloch announced that the committee created an ad hoc committee to review the student evaluation surveys during the summer.

v     Election Committee:  Senator Corbett reminded all that ballots are due on 4/11 and the committee will be counting them next Wednesday.

v     Finance Committee:  Senator Brucker announced that there are 30 Part Time faculty on the waiting list and 54 Full Time faculty on the list.  She asked that all senators remind the faculty in their department to submit their receipts for payment within 30 days.  New Faculty members (1st year) will have President Norton’s support on travel funds and she had promised to find funds for their travel.

v     FASP :  Senator Vu announced that the FASP members will be working with the working groups of the university strategic plan committee.  The FASP committee will be meeting on Monday, 4/10.
