The fifth meeting of the 2006-2007 year was called to order at 12:10 PM.

The minutes of October 25^th, 2006 were approved.

Announcements:

Ø Senator Fullmer announced that the planet Mercury will be visible next week after 3:00 PM.

Ø Senator Swartz noted that the nominations for filling vacancies on several all-university committees have been sent to faculty.  He encouraged all interested senators to apply and asked them to remind the faculty in their department to apply if interested.

Old Business: Personnel Policy Resolution:  The Renewal Document.

• Senator Johnson initiated discussion on the proposed modifications to the renewal document.  The debate at this point is not to formally accept or reject the document, but to give senators an opportunity to react to the revised document.  The committee had indicated deletions and additions to the document and these were debated by the senators who freely gave their opinions.  The comments below reflect the general consensus of the senators.
• III. A.:  An addition was proposed for this section that generated extended discussion which will result in additional deliberations from the Personnel Policy Committee.
• III.B.1: An addition, and one deletion, was proposed for this section that, after discussion, was accepted by the senators.
•  III.B.2.d: A deletion was proposed for this section that was accepted by the senators.
• III.B.2.e: This entire section was deleted and this deletion was accepted by the senators.
• III.B.1:  This section had a major deletion and a major addition that, following discussion, was accepted by the senators.
• III.B.3: This section was not originally marked by the committee, but discussion on the senate floor indicated some changes may be necessary.  The Personnel Policy Committee will examine this section.
• III.B.4.a: One deletion was proposed for this section and this was accepted by the senators.
• III.B.4.b: One addition and one deletion were proposed for this section and these were accepted by the senators.
• III.B.5: This section had a major deletion and a major addition.  These were accepted by the senators.
• III.C.1: This section had a deletion and addition and these were accepted by the senators.

At this point, because of time constraints, it was decided to postpone discussion on this resolution, until the next meeting.

The senate adjourned at 1:55 PM.
