Announcements:
-
The Special Meeting of the Faculty Senate on December 16th will
feature Dean J.P. Thompson as guest. Vice-President Smith will attend,
and we will approve Minutes, but there will be no other agenda items. Executive
Committee will not meet.
-
All Senators should make the effort to attend President Adanti’s "University
Dialogues". Senators should also encourage their constituents to attend.
-
A statement from the Executive Committee regarding technology was delivered
to President Adanti by Senators Jirsa, Sherman, and Carr. It read as follows:
It is the sense of the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate
that access to computer functions and software is threatened seriously
and has already been reduced to a level which is intolerable. Should there
be any interruption of access to computer functions and software for any
reason, or should there be any further inconvenience, a Faculty Senate
vote of no confidence, at least in the Director of Academic Computing,
will certainly and immediately follow.
Furthermore, prevention of further decline in access to computer
functions and software will not be enough. We expect an immediate reversal
of this decline, and a convincing improvement in performance.
-
Senator Christine Petto has been asked to replace Cindy Schofield-Bodt
as Senate Representative on the Strategic Plan Advisory Committee (SPAC).
Executive Committee Report: None.
Senate President’s Report:
The Senate Resolution (#F-98-01)
regarding senior audits was delivered to President Adanti. It awaits his
action.
President Adanti intends to act in
favor of the previous Senate Resolution which calls for the expansion of
the Academic Community Hour.
Senator Tony Sherman will be forming
a sub-committee of the ad hoc Technology Committee to deal with issues
and concerns surrounding faculty input on BANNER.
Standing Committee Reports
Elections:(Flo Hatcher): No report.
Finance: (Robert Eldridge): (Finance report
will be forwarded to the Secretary and filed with approved minutes)
Rules : (Uchenna Nwachuku) No report.
Personnel Policy: (Barbara Worden): No report.
Student Policy : (Cindy Schofield-Bodt): No report.
Ad hoc Technology : (Tony Sherman): The committee will
investigate how many faculty computers are yet to be installed.
Academic Policy: (Jim Fullmer): The Academic Policy
Committee revisited the 5-part resolution regarding distance learning &
on-line courses. Concern was expressed that the resolution as presented
does not give faculty control over on-line courses. The intent of the resolution
was to say that on-line courses will be governed by existing structures.
J.P. Thompson will address on-line courses and distance learning concerns
at the special Senate meeting of December 16th.
Any other suggestions regarding the resolution should be forwarded to
Academic Policy Committee.
