New Business:
I. Student Policy presented a resolution
based on a concern brought forth by
a faculty member that experienced an episode of academic dishonesty. The
Student Policy Committee accepted friendly amendment to read as follows:
Whereas expectations of and consequences of failure to conform to standards of academic honesty should be clearly evident to faculty and students, and
Whereas the student handbook is not
routinely distributed to faculty or graduate students, and
Therefore, the section called Academic Honesty including statements on plagiarism and academic dishonesty in the student handbook pages 123-124 should be included in the academic standards section of the SCSU undergraduate and graduate catalogs as well as the Faculty Handbook.
II. An inquiry will be made into faculty access to color printing on campus.
III.
Re: Interdisciplinary programs: Concern was expressed, as it was at the
Summer Retreat, that clear guidelines need to be established for
Interdisciplinary and Inter-Departmental Programs
It was noted that Article 5.17.1 of the CBA speaks specifically about
Interdisciplinary programs.
New Programs, such as the Judaic Studies Program, were faculty driven with
support of the Academic Vice President and the UCF, and the Senate was
informed. All courses went through UCF
approval.
MOTION was made and seconded to refer the issue of Interdisciplinary/Interdepartmental
guidelines to Academic Policy Chair to create an ad hoc Committee. Question was called. Motion passed by majority vote.
IV. Concern was expressed that faculty are not involved enough with university-wide committees, and that a solution is needed. Motion to refer to Executive Committee was passed by majority vote.
UCF Update: (Camille Serchuk)
Continues to work on Freshman Requirements . English 98 should not be considered a punitive course.
Respectfully submitted,
T. Wiley Carr
Secretary of the Senate-
