Library Director Search

Rob Snyder updated the University Library Committee on the Library Director search. As stated in last month’s minutes, the director search remains unfilled and a new search may be conducted. Provost Williams gave the committee the authority to go back to the list and call in candidates for an interview or start a new job search. Chairperson Jim Granfield is in process of contacting some candidates on the committee’s list, and will convene the committee to discuss how they should proceed.

ULC members from the teaching faculty expressed concern that it’s been over 2 years now, and the library still hasn’t selected a library director. Without a full-time director, this leadership void has adversely affected library services to our students and faculty. Hugh Davis recommended that members of the teaching faculty schedule an appointment with Provost Williams to express their concerns. He will contact Provost Williams and schedule an interview sometime after the spring break.

New Library Addition

ULC members asked when the library would move into the new addition. Shirley Cavanagh indicated that the move is scheduled for August but an exact date still hasn’t been set. Faculty members hope that the move doesn’t occur in September or during the semester when access to library resources would become unavailable.

University Library Committee Charge

Rob Snyder e-mailed all members of the committee a copy of then Vice-President Tony Pinciaro’s original charge. The committee needs to revisit the charge for possible changes/updates. Hugh Davis will call Wes O’Brien, from the faculty Senate, after the break and speak to him about how we can work with the Senate. Hugh put out a call again for an undergraduate and graduate student representative. He wants more student involvement on the ULC.

Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 11 at noon. If this date won’t work then we’ll have the meeting on Wednesday, April 18 at noon. Hugh will send the final date of the meeting via e-mail.
