The current Northeastern Section was the New England Region of the MAA until 1955. In that year the Northeastern Section was admitted to the MAA as a section. With the change from region to section, the name was changed from New England to Northeastern because the four Maritime Provinces of Canada were joined with the old New England Region to form the new Section.Governors of the New England Region of the MAA

We have listed below the Governors of the New England Region (before 1955) and the Governors of the Northeastern Section (after 1955). George Thomas was the Governor of the New England Region in 1955, and so he became the first Governor of the new Northeastern Section.
