Equity of Access: Adaptive Technology Frances S. Grodzinsky
Video Text for the Introduction Equity of Access – Adaptive Technology: “This presentation concerns itself with why it is morally imperative for students with disabilities to have equal access to computer technology. In the information age, information is power… information empowers individuals to do their jobs… to get jobs… it empowers students to succeed in university life… and therefore, we need to ask ourselves if universities are doing all that they can to make information and access to computer technology available to students with disabilities. There are several laws on the books… Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act was extended by Section 508 which included technology. But the problem is – and I think it’s a it’s problem that we’re seeing in a lot of universities – there is minimal accommodation being made… and several universities believe that the way to help students with disabilities is to give them someone to do the physical work for them rather than to empower them as individuals and as individual learners.” Art direction, digital photography, and editing by Margaret E.
