4.1 Uphold and promote the principles of this Code.
The future of the computing profession as a whole depends upon both technical and ethical excellence. It is important for the individual computing professional to adhere to these ethical principles and to actively encourage others to do so.
4.2 Take appropriate action leading to a remedy if I observe an apparent violation of the Code.
The appropriate action upon observing a Code violation begins with gathering evidence to determine if a violation occurred, and if so, its degree of severity. The individual may wish to consult with other ACM members in this investigation. Once a determination has been made, discussion of the nature of the problem with the apparent violator is appropriate. If the problem can not be resolved otherwise, it should be reported according to the policy specified in the Policies and Procedures of the ACM section 8.3.5.
4.3 Understand that violation of this code is inconsistent
with membership in the ACM.
Adherence of professionals to a code of ethics is for the most part a voluntary
matter. If a member does not accept or follow this code, it should be understood
that termination of membership is appropriate.
