He thanked SGA for our support with funding for the First Year Experience program that is linked with the initiative he is working on. This semester some programs will be sponsored by the Men’s Initiative. Tyler requested that a member of SGA introduce the speaker on Wednesday, September 23rd, at the “Voices of Men” program. He would like the support of all student leaders but emphasized the specific need for our male student leaders to support this initiative.

V. President’s Report: Willie Garcia

SMART Initiative: The pick up date was Wednesday, September 16th and it went very well. Students were very appreciative and the university photographer even came to take pictures. There are still about 20 students who haven’t picked up their computers; and there will be two more pick up dates Wednesday, September 23rd and Friday, September 25th .

Committee Representatives: If anyone is available Wednesdays at noon to serve on the Faculty Senate, please Willie.

Vice President’s Report: The board chairs meeting will be immediately after this meeting. SGA Members need to be regularly attending events that SGA sponsor. Willie, Ben and Chuck will be attending the Student Advisory Board (SAB) meeting, with the three other CSU schools next Friday. If you have anything you would like for them to speak about, please let Ben know before next Friday.

Secretary’s Report: Attendance procedures have changed from least year, roll will be taken for members of SGA, and a sign up sheet will be passed out for all other students in attendance. It is important that student guests sign in so that we know how many meetings you have attended. The minutes will now be posted on the SGA website.

Treasurer’s Report: Copies of the budget are available on the side table for your review. All purchase requisitions need to go through Quinton and Char so that the money is properly disbursed through the correct org. number. Email or see Quinton during his office hours if you have any questions.

Day of Service: There is a sign up sheet, if you are interested, please sign up. All SGA members must be in attendance for this event!

Board Reports: Ben- Board chairs, must have a definite meeting times established by next week.

BSI: Chuck- At the last board meeting BSI discussed the locker situation; there is a waiting list for lockers in the student center. There are over one hundred lockers available in Morill that will hopefully be issued to students on the waiting list soon. Chuck spoke with Angela Todaro about the landscaping in the residential quad area and BSI will be meeting with IRC necessary improvements. BSI will also begin working with the residence life staff to host student forums in the residence halls. Tentative dates have been set for September 30, October 5th, October 7th at 7 p.m. They also hope to hold public forums in Connecticut Hall and the Student Center this semester.

BOF: Mo- Meetings are Mondays at 3:30 p.m. next to the meeting room around the corner of the SGA office. If you are interested, please see Mo after meeting.

BEIM: Katie P.- BEIM is reviewing office hours and emails will come out soon. Remember to email Katie when you sit your hours and include an overview of what you worked on. If the email system is down please email from your personal account. Missing office hours will result in a missed meeting and action will be taken. Please avoid having a lot of friends in the office for long periods of time. If there is free time during office hours, members should stop by Student Life to see if there is anything to help with.

BCR: Sharise- Constitution Day is coming up. We will celebrate on Thursday, September 24th and would love some volunteers to help with this day. Anthony is working with us on coordinating activities. Since we receive money from the Federal Government we are required to celebrate Constitution Day. BCR meetings are Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.

BPR: Tom- The board is working on a newsletter for students, if you have anything to add to it, please see Tom. Hopefully this will be done by next week; we are trying to work with the newspaper. BPR meetings are Fridays at 3 p.m.

BOCOM: Stefan- BOCOM has not yet set a permanent meeting time, but this week they will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the SGA office. This week BOCOM worked on the survey regarding the leadership retreat weekend. The clusters will be sent out information soon. Club attendance rates have been very good this year. There has also been great attendance at athletics events.

VI. New Business:

College Night: Matt- Matt worked at the event and reported that he saw a good amount of people from Southern there. The shuttles came back and forth from Southern all night. There was a facebook group about it, and posters around campus.

Homecoming: Leila- The promotions for the week have begun to go out. Homecoming King and Queen Guidelines will be sent out soon!

Friday Night Free for All: Brian- Southern Slumber will be the next FFFFA event on October 9th which is a PJ party on the 3rd floor of the student center. FFFFA is considering the possibility of doing a Halloween event.

d. SAFAC: Ben- The committee met this Tuesday and approved two events. The committee is looking to direct everyone into using campus resources as much as they can. The committee is definitely helping with the communication between IRC, ProCon and SGA. Proposals go to the chair of the committee (Ben), and are then discussed at the meeting. Any initiates that were set up last year, such as late night programming and Thursday nights would go to SAFAC, but clubs and organizations can go to BOF if they need help with conferences and budgets.

Uniforms: Ben- The polo’s that SGA ordered are still not finished. The fleeces are in production right now, along with T-shirts which will be coming in soon.

Shuttles: On Saturday there were 90 passengers to the mall, and the rest of the days were similar to last weekend.

VII. Announcements and Concerns:

Last year the BOF allocated money for the Abraham Lincoln bicentennial celebration for this year, November 20th, see Quinton for more details.

Thank you to everyone that came out to our events this week!

There has been great feedback about the events that have been going on, we really need to keep supporting all the events that are done on campus.

Thanks for attending our meeting, continue to stay involved and help whenever possible.

Adjourn: Sharise moves to adjourn, Brianna seconds. Meeting adjourned 1:55 p.m.

III. Old Business: Ben said Doreen is waiting for the provisionary status paperwork, so Sharise will be e-mailing them to her. Ben is still waiting for Alison Kelly from Pi Sigma Alpha to e-mail him back. Sharise met with Phil from Association of Progressive Thinkers and will be setting up another meeting with Sal, because there are some things that need to be discussed that we are not sure coincide with Southern’s policies and regulations. She will also be e-mailing Intervarsity and Christian Fellowship about some changes they need to make to their constitution as well as e-mailing Elohim explaining that we already have groups that provide bible studies, so another one would be redundant. And Brianna is STILL waiting for SCSU TV to bring her their revised proposal so she can finalize it. She also e-mailed Sean from SCSU’s Paranormal Society to see if he is still intending to start his club.

Board of Student Issues Meeting minutes of October 9, 2009

Commenced: 2:22pm by Chuck

Members present: Chuck Klatt, Rick Dematties, Jeff Clancy, Andrew Chu, Matt Earl, Ben, and Willie

Forums: Did all that we could. Community Coordinators and Angela didn’t hold their parts. Public forums we need clip boards talk to each individual. Brad said we could do it by the theater idea place for us to do an open forum. Pro con did a thing like this and got a whole group of kids. Public forums will be from 2 weeks from this week. To do the Theater thing we just need to talk to Brad.

Greenhouses: Environmental futurists told Jeff that they used it a couple years ago and got kicked out by biology. Brad said we should go up the chain of command within the university. If the problems continue talk to them.

Desks in Morril: Pretty much reclining chairs. Brad said talk to Bob Shealy or heads of departments that use these rooms about this. Needs to be fixed maybe could also be safety problems.

Slabs outside Conn Hall: Possibly posting plexy glass to stop people putting stupid things on there. Brad said it’s a bad idea because it’s a community board and anyone can put stuff on there. It helps stop the overflow on Engelmann announcement board..

No New Issues

Ground Floor: It can`t is something that goes against Chart wells or the bookstores. Chu said different game rooms. Has to something that is service oriented. There is a possibility of a nail salon. We would ask that there is to be no fake nails as we have no ventilation in the room surrounded on both sides by business. A tanning place would possibly cause cancer. An arcade would be a good idea. Use it a Public Forum or possibly a survey out to all the students.

Puddles: Will be hard to during the winter to get around with the weather. Need to talk to Bob Shealy because it can a safety problem. That is a definite thing that needs to be addressed.

John will talk to the Bio chair department. Jeff will continue to talk to the environmental futurists. Rick will help Chuck with the puddles in the residential quad and the chairs in Morril.

Adjourned by Chuck at 2:57
