New Student Orientation- SUmmer 2013

 

Welcome to Southern Connecticut State University!

 

New Student Orientation: Fall 2013

Orientation is designed to provide new students with the information they will need to have a successful first year at Southern. First-time college students, freshmen, who will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the Fall of 2013 must attend a two-day orientation session, which will be held in May and June of 2013, and New Student Welcome Weekend (Sunday, August 25th- Tuesday, August 27th).

Reservations: Students will be able to place their reservation for New Student Orientation by visiting the "Next Steps" portion of their MySCSU page. (Available by March 1st)

In order to do so, please visit MySCSU by clicking here. You must know your email username and password to access "Next Steps."

New Student Orientation is mandatory -- First-time college students, freshmen, who will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the Fall of 2013 must attend one of the following five New Student Orientation sessions which will be held in May and June as well as New Student Welcome Weekend held on August 25th (mandatory), August 26th (mandatory) and August 27th (encouraged).

New Student Orientation Sessions --

Session I - Wednesday, May 29th  - Thursday, May 30th

Session II - Tuesday, June 4th - Wednesday, June 5th

Session III - Wednesday, June 12th - Thursday, June 13th

Session IV - Monday, June 17th - Tuesday, June 18th

Session V - Thursday, June 20th - Friday, June 21st

These sessions will provide students with information critical to their academic success, allow new students to network with professional faculty and staff and socialize with their peers. Students will receive their Fall 2013 courses during their New Student Orientation sessions.

Plan Ahead: Please note that space for each session is limited. All programs, activities, and educational workshops are mandatory. The first day of Orientation will begin as early as 8am and conclude by 9pm. The second day will begin at 8am and will conclude at approximately 5pm.

Students should plan to attend an orientation session that does not conflict with their high school final exams, athletic competitions, prom, work schedule, banquets, or graduation.

*Rescheduling Policy: The New Student Orientation Reservation system will remain open until May 11th. Before May 11th, you may modify your reservation at any time without penalty. After May 11th, if your schedule changes and you need to reschedule, you must notify the Office of Student Life via email at orientation@southernct.edu 72 hours prior to your scheduled session. In your email, please include your name, Student ID number, and the session you would prefer to attend. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but please understand that space in each session is limited. Students who miss their orientation session will not be receive their Fall 2013 courses until all sessions conclude. Again, please note, all first-year students are required to attend New Student Orientation to be accepted at Southern Connecticut State University.

Welcome Weekend

New Student Welcome Weekend wil be held on August 25th (mandatory), August 26th (mandatory) and August 27th (encouraged).

New students (freshmen) that will be living on-campus will be expexted to move in to their assigned residence hall on Saturday, August 24th.
