PLACEMENT EXAMS

Placement exams are important to the appropriate selection of courses so please read carefully to make educated decisions regarding your placement registration.

Freshmen (full-time and part-time)

All Freshmen are required to take an English placement exam prior to orientation unless you have AP credit or plan to transfer in college credit taken during high school (i.e. MAT 095, 100 or greater or ENG 110, 111, or 112).

  • You must take the English placement exam
  • Your Math placement will be based on your math SAT score unless you have AP credit or plan to transfer in college credit taken during high school or you can challenge your math placement by taking a placement exam (SAT scoring)
  • The Foreign Language exam is required for students who have had one or more years of experience with foreign language.

Transfer students (full-time and part-time)

Transfer students who have completed and transferred in a prerequisite course in mathematics or English composition (i.e. MAT 095, 100 or greater or ENG 110, 111, or 112) are not required to take placement exams.

  • If you have not transferred in ENG 110, 111, or 112, you must take an English placement exam. 
  • If you have not transferred in MAT 095, 100 or greater, you must take the math placement exam (SAT scores maynot be used).
  • The Foreign Language exam is required for students who have had one or more years of experience with a foreign language and have not transferred in a foreign language course. 

Current students

Current students who haven't completed placement exams or transferred in prerequisite coursework, should take any needed placement exam.

 

WHERE ARE EXAMS HELD?

Exams are held on campus.  When you register for the exam, the time and location of the exam will be listed.

How Do I Register?

  1. You will need your MySCSU username.
  2. You will need your MySCSU password. Your initial password is your six digit birthdate, MMDDYY (e.g., March 18, 1989 is 031889).  Alternatively, if you need to reset your MySCSU password you will need to contact the SCSU Helpdesk by phone.
  3. You are required to take all exams on the same date.  Exams are scheduled so that there will be no time conflicts, and you will only be able to select consecutive exams not concurrent exams (i.e., an 8:30 exam, a 10:30 exam, and if you wish, foreign language at 1:00 p.m.).
  4. If you need special accommodations due to a documented disability, please contact the Disability Resource Center at 203.392.6828.
