PLACEMENT EXAMS

Academic success is dependent upon a strong foundation in critical reading, writing, and quantitative reasoning.  Therefore, all students are required to take composition and mathematics courses.  In order to ensure your success in these courses, you will be placed by either placement exam or SAT scores.  Foreign language is also required at the university so students may choose to take a foreign language placement exam or be placed into language courses based on the number of years of high school language completed.  See the outline below to understand what you need:

All first-time college students (full-time and part-time admitted freshmen).

  • You must take the English placement exam
  • Your Math placement will be based on your math SAT score or you can challenge your math placement by taking a placement exam (SAT scoring)
  • The Foreign Language exam is optional*

Full-time and part-time transfer students (who have not transferred in ENG or MAT credits)

  • You must take the English placement exam
  • You must take the Math placement exam (SAT scores maynot be used)
  • The Foreign Language exam is optional*

Current students who have not taken placement exams

  • You should take whatever exam you are lacking.

*Foreign Language is an all university requirement at the institution, but the placement exam is optional.  If you choose not to take a foreign language exam, your placement into foreign language will be based on your high school foreign language experience.

WHERE ARE EXAMS HELD?

Exams are held on campus.  When you register for the exam, the time and location of the exam will be listed.

  • EN is Engleman Hall
  • JE is Jennings Hall
