One
of the overall goals of the Unification of Teacher Preparation Program
Grant is to enable both university faculty and classroom teachers
use research-based strategies to meet the needs of a diverse array
of learners. The following websites provide excellent resources
to assist faculty and teachers in meeting this goal:

This website provides links to a variety of educational initiatives
including diversity, standards and practices, and accreditation.

Although St. Joseph is very different from Southern Connecticut

The
Iris Center for Faculty Enhancement at Vanderbilt University
is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The center provides
numerous resources for general education teachers and related services
personnel to meet the needs of students with disabilities and their
families. The site includes and extensive, web-based resource directory
that allows very specific searches for web resources. The site also
features the “Star Legacy” online instructional modules
for use by faculty instructing teacher candidates. The modules include
scenarios and suggestions for a variety of classroom situations.

Center for Applied Special Technology
This site provides many resources for college faculty and classroom
teachers in eliminating barriers for students with disabilities
through the use of assistive technology. While the information is
useful in teaching learners with disabilities, it is pertinent for
all learners. Includes information and resources on Universal Design
for Learning and Assessment, using brain research and media technologies
to respond to individual learner differences.

Connecticut State University’s Center for Adaptive Technology
This site provides information on the many assistive technology
resources available on Southern Connecticut State University campus
for students with disabilities. While the main mission of the CAT
is to services Southern Connecticut State University students, assistive
technology evaluations and consultations are available to the public.

West
Virginia University Inclusion in Science Education for Students
with Disabilities. This site
presents accommodation and inclusion strategies for students with
disabilities. Topics include teaching strategies, learning environments
and assistive/ adaptive technologies. All of the strategies have
been found to assist students with disabilities in their academic
pursuits. Eight general types of disabilities are presented across
six science teaching methods, viz., teacher presentation, laboratory,
field, reading, discussion, and research. Some 800 teaching strategies
are presented.
