TO ALL FACULTY IN THE SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES:
Given the
increase in the number of cases of plagiarism that have occurred over the past
few years, I have decided to keep a data base of all reported cases of
plagiarism in the School of Arts & Sciences. Each record contains the name
of the student, the class in which the plagiarism occurred and the name of the
instructor reporting the incident. If this office receives a report of a case
of plagiarism and the student's name is already in the data base, I will
forward the name of the student to the Director of Judicial Affairs and request
that disciplinary action be taken. Therefore, it is important that all cases of
plagiarism be reported to this office regardless of the action taken by the
individual instructor.
If you have
confirmed that a student has plagiarized on a paper or engaged in other
activities of academic dishonesty, please e-mail the name of the student, the
nature of the academic dishonesty, the course (dept, course number and section
number) and semester in which this occurred (past occurrences may be reported also if you
choose), and your decision regarding the consequence of the plagiarism. Also
include whether you would like for me to write a letter to the student
expressing the university's intolerance of academic dishonesty.
If you have
any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
