In the Fall of
2005 President Cheryl J. Norton announced the initiation
of a university strategic planning process. This process, which has
solicited the active involvement of the entire campus community, will
result in a University Strategic Plan for 2007-2012.
In the midst of a $260 million construction
and facilities improvement project, the president has appointed
new administrative leaders in University Advancement, Academic Affairs,
and Student/University Affairs. In addition, the institution continues
to recruit highly qualified, diverse faculty and staff. Southern
Connecticut State University is truly undergoing an institutional
renaissance. It is fitting, then, that we engage in a thoughtful,
transparent, and forward-looking strategic planning process to create
an outstanding urban, comprehensive university positioned to meet
the challenges of the 21st century. These are indeed exciting times
for Southern.
This website was developed to facilitate
communication with the various members of the campus community and
those from outside of the campus who are interested in the future
goals and direction of the institution. I invite you to visit the
E-Resource Center on this page which contains many of the reports,
studies, and other documents that provide historical background
for this process and will inform the Steering Committee as it develops
drafts of the actual Plan. The Steering Committee is supported by
ten Strategic Working Groups, comprised of over 160 faculty, staff,
and students, the membership of which can be found on this page,
along with the minutes of the meetings that have been held by those
groups. Both the Steering Committee and the Strategic Working Groups
regularly post their meeting times, upcoming events, and draft documents
here for your convenience. From time to time draft documents will
be posted in a way to solicit input from the campus community. In
an effort to encourage inclusivity and participation throughout
the planning process, a Suggestion Box has been made available for
your use. Be sure to check the Calendar of Events so that you can
stay involved. Be a part of Southern’s future.

Vice President for Academic Affairs
