SCSU's Bachelor of Science degree in public health, one of the few such degree programs in the nation, is a planned program of study providing students with a strong general background in areas of knowledge basic to public health and specialized training in one of three concentrations:
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Course work in this concentration addresses current environmental issues, regulation, and public responsibility in the traditional role of the sanitarian, and the expanded responsibility of public health. Students must complete the required internship in the environmental health section of a local or state health department.
HEALTH PROMOTION
The health-promotion concentration focuses on the development of skills to plan, develop, and evaluate ecological interventions designed to establish sustainable health-benefiting behaviors and environments. Student select internships in public and private health-promotion/disease-prevention programs.
GENERAL
This option is designed for students who plan to pursue graduate education once they complete their Bachelor of Science Public Health requirements. Students will select 15 credits from an approved list of 300-level and 400-level courses to satisfy this option.
