RESEARCH INTERESTS IN GENERAL:

Elimination of health disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation and the effect that social and cultural factors have on health inequalities.

Use of qualitative methods in health research  

Barriers and facilitators to HIV medication adherence

Exploration of social context in HIV prevention for women

 

CURRENT/FUTURE SPECIFIC RESEARCH AND CONSULTING PROJECTS:

2006-2008: Project Direct, Graduate Minority Scholarship Program, funded through the Connecticut Health Foundation.   A new scholarship program to support minority students through the MPH program with the long-term goal of eliminating health disparities in the state of Connecticut. The first cohort of students will begin in the Fall, 2006 semester.

2006-2008: Program Evaluator, Healthy Latino Families & Communities Project funded through Latino Community Services (Formerly Latinos Contra SIDA)

2006-2007: Co-Investigator, Health Status Report of African Americans in the State of Connecticut.  Funded by the Connecticut State Conference of NAACP.   My role in this project is to conduct a series of focus groups, throughout the State, to determine why there are health disparities and how they affect the lives of African Americans.

Ongoing: Connecticut State University Student Health Committee, SCSU Liaison. Administer Student Health Behavior Surveys, analyze data and write dissemination reports.
