Technical comments were provided to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection on the mayfly portion of their computer based taxa list.
1994, Comments on Maine Endangered Species List. I was solicited for comments on the aquatic invertebrate section of the proposed list of endangered invertebrates. Specifically, I provided comments on the mayflies and caddisflies. As a result of my comments more species of mayflies were added to the list than initially proposed and the one species of caddisfly was removed.

This revision will clarify the taxonomy of the 10 described species (using a combination of morphological and molecular characters) and discuss biogeographic relationships with the Palearctic fauna.Discovery of a new variant of Ephemerella needhami in Maine. I am investigating a morphological variant of the species E. needhami, which was preliminarily confirmed as a new species in the genus Ephemerella. Variation appears to be limited to female nymphs, which cannot be correctly identified using the existing keys. During the summer of 1995 a series of these variant individuals was reared for taxonomic study. If new key characters can be identified they will be published to augment the existing literature.
