2001                                        Co-Investigator, Early Literacy Success Evaluation Grant – Connecticut State Department of Education – Grant award of $100,000.00.  Responsible for each phase of implementation of evaluation project to gather data to assess how the Priority School Districts across the State of Connecticut have begun to implement the Connecticut’s Blueprint For Reading Achievement The Report of the Early Reading Success Panel.  Data collection (interviews, focus groups), data analysis, report writing, and presentation(s) are each fundamental responsibilities

 

2001                                        Reassigned Time, Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT.  Preparatory time granted to organize homeless research to evaluate potential to expand homeless program from pilot shelter to additional shelter(s) within the New Haven community thereby serving a greater number of homeless children and their families.  Presently, the Homeless Project has matched each child in the pilot shelter with a tutor-mentor from SCSU and there is a pool of trained volunteers prepared to enter a shelter to address the needs of children.

2000                                        Curriculum Related Activities Grant, Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT.  Research, organization, and preparation of a training manual for working with homeless population in shelters was developed under this grant and information from research was and will be infused directly in courses taught.  This unique training guide for working with homeless populations of children and families promotes a new degree of preparation for volunteers.  “Handbook of Guidelines For Working With Homeless Children and Families In Shelters” is now the tool utilized to train volunteers from SCSU to work in area shelters with children.  Handbook is also available within the Mayor’s Office.
