Graduate Program

description

The Master of Science degree program in recreation and leisure studies is designed to prepare students for supervision, administration, and management of recreation programs and park facilities.

The curriculum is competency-based, that is, the didactic and practical learning experiences are structured to develop the skills required of personnel on the job. Adaptive skills facilitate adjustment to the physical, interpersonal and organizational arrangements and conditions on the job. Functional skills enable personnel to relate to things, data, and people according to their personal preferences and to some degree of complexity appropriate to their abilities. Content skills enable personnel to bring depth of knowledge and understanding to their work and practicum experience, and independent study activities provide students with a broad array of learning experiences to further their development. Elective courses are approved in relation to the the contribution they make to the student's overall knowledge of human growth and development, human relations, content areas, and so on.
