What is a CTRS?
A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is a dedicated allied health professional who has the combined education and work experience to meet the standards of the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Requirements for designation as a CTRS include:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in the concentrated area of Recreation Therapy or one of the academic equivalency options
- Completion of full-time internship under supervision of a CTRS
- Pass the NCTRC Certification Exam

Therapeutic Recreation
In the Therapeutic Recreation concentration, students acquire the skills necessary to help improve the quality of life for people with disabilities by using recreation services and leisure experiences. Upon completion of this program, students are prepared to take the National Certification in Therapeutic Recreation to become a CTRS.
