women's basketballThe following links will help you to learn more about several state and national organizations that work with and represent the interests of those involved in recreation and leisure.

 

Connecticut Recreation and Parks association (CRPA)

The state organization that represents recreation is CRPA. Students are encouraged to involve themselves in the organization through its annual conference and other areas of the professional association's involvement. Students can volunteer for a variety of roles at the conference as well as become active in the association's committees and legislative affairs. CRPA publishes periodic journals and sponsors many events of interest to students preparing for careers, such as training programs, conferences and a variety of educational seminars and workshops.

 

national Recreation and Parks association (NRPA)

In addition to CRPA,  NRPA, is the national association involved with recreation issues on the national level.

 

National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)

NTCRC is a nationally recognized credentialing organization for the profession of therapeutic recreation. Students with an interest in therapeutic recreation may, if they choose to, apply for national certification and sit for the national certification examination.

 

Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD)

AAHPERD is a non-profit, educational organization whose mission is to promote and support creative and healthy lifestyles through high quality programs. Students with an interest in fitness, dance, and other forms of expression are encouraged to become active in AAPHERD.
